Easy, sustainable ways to care for your cat

Want to be a more eco-friendly pet owner? Discover simple, sustainable ways to care for your cat while reducing waste and protecting the planet this B Corp Month.

This B Corp Month, we’re celebrating the small, everyday choices we can all make to help protect our planet. As a cat owner you might not realise it, but by making a few simple swaps to the way you care for your feline friend, you’ll help reduce waste, lower your cat’s carbon pawprint, and live more sustainably.

Here’s how to go green while keeping your cat happy and healthy.

Pick up sustainable pet products

  • Food & treats: Look for brands that prioritise natural ingredients and responsible sourcing to reduce their environmental impact.
  • Bowls & beds: Swap plastic for stainless steel, bamboo, or ceramic bowls and choose pet beds made from recycled or organic materials.
  • Toys & scratchers: Opt for hemp, recycled fabric, or natural wood instead of synthetic materials to help reduce plastic waste.

Upcycle & repurpose everyday items

  • Cardboard playhouses: Transform your old delivery boxes into a cat castle or hideout.
  • Old clothes, new bed: Stuff an old sweatshirt with fabric scraps for a cosy DIY cat bed.
  • Toilet roll toys: Cut holes in a toilet roll, hide treats inside, and let your cat bat it around for a fun, plastic-free way to play.

Choose an eco-friendly litter

  • Wood pellet litter: Biodegradable and great for odour control.
  • Corn or wheat litter: Natural, clumping, and compostable.
  • Recycled paper litter: Soft on paws and made from post-consumer materials.

Save water & reduce waste

  • Try a water fountain: They help keep your cat hydrated without the need to constantly refill bowls.
  • Wash pet bedding in cold water: This saves energy while keeping things fresh.
  • Buy in bulk: This reduces packaging waste and means fewer trips to the shops.

Being a sustainable cat owner is easier than you think. By making small, mindful swaps, you’re not just helping the environment, you’re creating a healthier home for your cat too.

At Encore, we’re committed to doing what’s best for pets, people, and the planet, through little changes that make a big impact.
